Two police officers who were photographed with scantily-clad women at the annual Northern Territory "Hookers Ball" have been stood down from operational duties.
The pictures, published by the
NT News, show the officers posing with the women who are dressed in nothing more than strapless tops, thigh-high shorts and, in one case, black lingerie.
One of the armed officers is seen with his hand on the buttocks of a woman as she bends down in front of him while another is seen receiving a kiss.
Both officers were quizzed over the photographs when they were brought to the attention of the police yesterday.
Deputy Commissioner Bruce Wernham confirmed the pair were on duty at the time and that they were carrying out a licenced premises patrol as part of a crackdown on drunken behaviour in Darwin.
"On our receipt of the photographs an internal investigation was commenced immediately
and the two officers concerned were interviewed (yesterday) afternoon," Mr Wernham was quoted as saying.
"Further interviews need to be conducted and at the conclusion of the investigation all evidence will be assessed."
In the meantime, the officers involved had been stood down from "duties of this type".
A flyer from last year's Hookers Ball said partygoers should expect "bondage beds, fantasy, latex, porn stars, erotic dancers, and an R-rated, very raunchy event".
