COLUMBIA, Tenn. - A jury convicted a Maury County woman of killing her husband during a sexual bondage act, but Rebecca Bargy may not serve any jail tine.
Rebecca Bargy was found guilty of criminally negligent homicide in the death of her husband James.
In an exclusive interview, James Bargy's family said his wife should be facing 20 years in prison.
Bargy could get a maximum of two years behind bars after Wednesday's verdict.
She faced a second degree murder charge for the death of her husband James.
A Maury County jury disagreed, convicting her of a much lesser crime, criminally negligent homicide.
Verdict Reached In Bondage Trial, Wife Guilty "I think overall she was relieved. I mean obviously she was looking at 2nd degree murder which carries 15-25 years in prison," said defense attorney Sammy Patterson.
Prosecutors said Bargy tied up and gagged her husband at their home in 2007 and then left him home alone for 20 hours.
During that time, Rebecca was at a hotel with another man.
"She left my brother to die while she was in a hotel room with another man. My brother fighting for every last breath while she was breathing heavy in a hotel," said victim's sister Lisa Bargy.
The jury's verdict means Rebecca Bargy will face a maximum of one to two years in prison. There is also a chance she could be given probation.
"I don't think she meant to kill him, but she definitely should have had to pay for what she did," said victim's mother Donna Bargy.
After the verdict Rebecca Bargy would not talk to reporters, but during the trial she described returning home and finding her husband's body.
"I saw him in the hallway, and I ran down there. I got to untie him one knot and he was so cold," said Rebecca Bargy.
The victim's family was struggling with the fact their loved one is gone, and Rebecca Bargy might avoid a jail sentence.
"I'll never be able to forgive her for what she did," said Donna Bargy.
The Maury County jury came up with a verdict after only a couple hours.
Rebecca Bargy is free on bond and will be back in court as early a next month for sentencing.
