CONSPIRACY TRIAL BEGINS

PETERBOROUGH--The trial of a rich businessman allegedly ensnared in a five-year affair with a dominatrix mistress is expected to start Wednesday on charges he conspired to have his longtime wife killed by his mistress' former lover at his North Kawartha Township cottage.


Alex Petraitis and Sandra Lynn Rinella are facing conspiracy to commit murder charges in the plot to kill Kristen Petraitis and also counselling Kerry Anderson to murder Petraitis' then-wife in 2004.

The trial of the 67-year-old businessman and the 47-year-old Rinella was scheduled to start earlier this month but has been delayed partly because of legal wrangling.

FAKE CREDIT CARD USED
A Toronto woman faces charges after a Bank of Montreal teller discovered that a customer was trying to use a counterfeit credit card, city police said.

Police said a woman showed the teller identification and the card while asking for a $1,500 cash advance Saturday at about 2:20 p.m.
The fraud was discovered when the teller tried to verify the card, police said.

Debbie Sue Jones, 27, was charged with possession of a counterfeit credit card obtained by crime, personation and attempted fraud.

She is to appear in court March 4.
