Christina Aguilera’s Bisexual Music Video: Do You Buy it?

“I’m kissing all the boys and the girls…I’ve lost my mind.” Those are some of the lyrics in Christina Aguilera’s new single, ‘Not Myself Tonight” off her new album ‘Bionic’ which features a robotic Christina on the cover. The ‘Bionic’ cover is reminiscient of Lady Gaga, a criticism that Aguilera has encountered before, with her single “Supergirl’ when she wore Gaga-esque blinders and pretended not to know who Gaga was. Now, Christina is back to her old tricks, ones we haven’t seen since Dirrrty when she spread the message that wearing assless chaps sent a strong message about her feminism. In her video, she has bondage scenes with a woman and kisses and licks her, she wears her underwear and rolls around in bed with a man, with almost the exact same hairdo as Gaga in the sex scene in Paparazzi. She also wears diamond studded bondage gags and some kind of crazy thing over her eyes. It’s weird, it’s almost like a parody of Gaga and it comes across as desperate.


The Christina lesbian scenes in her new video make me sad for her. She’s trying too hard. Christina has been rumored to be bisexual and she has stated she isn’t. She has done a lot for the LGBT community as a straight ally and that’s great. That doesn’t mean she has to make out with other women in public to make her LGBT audience happy or titallated, no one is buying it.

This isn’t the first time this has happened to Aguilera. When she first entered the music scene, she was overshadowed by Britney Spears. In fact, that fateful night at the MTV Music Awards when Madonna and Britney kissed…the camera cut away before the audience could see that Aguilera also kissed Madonna. The Spears-Madonna kiss was all over the news, posters were made…Aguilera was completely left out.

Aguilera left the music scene for awhile to have a family and a baby. Then she came back with a pin-up themed offering, which was cute but didn’t really hit the mark. It was too gimicky, too retro. Her gimicks in each of her reinventions of herself have overshadowed her immense talent. She is a normal person, in the unstable fishbowl of Hollywood she has carved out a normal life for herself and her family. She should be proud of that and her fans are happy for her. If Christina focused on her voice, her talent and lost the gimicks, she could make more of a dent in the current music scene than she currently is.
