USA- MEMPHIS- The operator of a so-called sex bondage house in Collierville got the maximum fine Thursday for running a racy website, although neighbors said it is not enough.
The infamous Zanthia House has drawn the ire of neighbors at Schilling Farms. There is no absolute proof anything goes on inside, but a racy website was enough for the city of Collierville to declare it a public nuisance.
Dave Harris, an attorney for Zanthia House operator James Williams, appeared on his behalf Thursday in Collierville City Court and accepted a maximum fine of $2,000. He also agreed not to advertise Zanthia House online as an adult-themed bed and breakfast.
Photos obtained by Action News 5 before the website was removed showed only a so-called playroom with, among other things, devices suspended from the ceiling.
Neighbors said they have never seen blinds open at the house and were upset the city could only prosecute Williams based on his website.
"We have a picture book town here," said neighbor Cynthia Sadler. "And so it just saddens me that we're tainted with this."
"I think there's a whole lot more going on than meets the eye and it simply has not been found out," said neighbor Roy Cash.
Harris refused to talk with reporters after court, but his client could reportedly face jail time if the website reappears. Williams could also face other charges if there becomes proof of actual sex services inside the house.
Williams previously told Action News 5 that the website was part of a reality TV pitch.
