UK- A MAN accused of strangling and raping a prostitute claimed it was consensual bondage which went wrong.
Stewart Dixon is alleged to have throttled the woman with a shoelace until she passed out and raped her as she lay unconscious.
Dixon, 31, of St Bedes Avenue, Fishburn, Stockton denies rape, sexual assault and causing grievous bodily harm with intent during the incident on November 6/7 last year.
He claims after picking her up off a Middlesbrough street, he suggested they try bondage after seeing it in Basic Instinct and on ITV2s Secret Diary of a Call Girl, which follows the life of a high-class prostitute.
Giving evidence yesterday at Teesside Crown Court, he said she had jumped into his car when he went to get a kebab, offered him sex for £20 and they had driven to wasteland.
Dixon, who spoke with a stammer, said: I asked her if we could try something, a bit of bondage, well S&M and that, and she says it will cost you extra.
I have not done nothing like that before and I think it was just all the excitement of picking a working girl up and actually seeing it on TV in a film.
Dixons barrister Anthony Moore asked: Seeing what on TV?. Dixon replied: Doing that thing with tying people up and putting stuff round peoples necks and tying them to beds.
When asked which film, Dixon said Basic Instinct and the Secret Diary of a Call Girl.
Dixon said he told the prostitute he wanted to put the lace around her neck and have sex with her and said she agreed for £10 extra.
Dixon said he tied a knot in the lace, but stopped intercourse when he realised she had gone quiet.
He said: I looked around and her mouth was open and she was blue-ish red in the face.
Dixon said he thought she was dead.
I was in tears. I tried getting the knot out of the lace. I was really panicking.
The court heard he drove to a farm track near a pub called the Three Horseshoes, with her in the back of the car, to have a joint and calm down. He said he lifted her out of the car.
I went to give her mouth-to-mouth and she was already breathing and I sat back down in my car with the door open and she just jumped straight up off the floor.
Dixon said he realised the lace was still around her neck and used a lighter to burn it off.
The court heard Dixon was too shaken up to take the woman home and offered for her to go back to his house.
He said they drank wine and she instigated sex with him, but he could not go through with it, and in the morning he dropped her off in Middlesbrough.
He said: She asked for an extra £50 and to take her to Whitby and drop her off there.
I told her to F off. Then she said to me Thats a bad mistake what you have made here.
