USA - Seems the popularity of Fifty Shades Of Grey is having a knock-on effect. Sales of the bondage documentary Mondo Bondo have spiked thanks to the huge popularity of the BDSM themed novel. The critically acclaimed documentary had been languishing on Amazon.com since 2010, according to Mondo Bondo's British Emmy Award winning writer/director, Tony Cane-Honeysett. "My film explores why people enjoy getting tied up for sexual pleasure. I made the doc a few years back but sales have unexpectedly shot up in recent weeks, so I can only assume it's because readers of the novel want to learn more about what is still considered a taboo subject.
The film from Vox Box Productions and available on Amazon.com, was an audience favorite at the Florida Film Festival and Minneapolis Film Festival in 2009. It features many well known names in the bondage communities in San Francisco, Tampa and Los Angeles, most notably Midori, Kumimonster, Stacey Burke, Carol Queen, Darla Crane and photographer Craig Morey.
Of course, Fifty Shades is a work of fiction while Mondo Bondo is about real people who really live this kinky lifestyle. But it's the novel that's helping BDSM go more mainstream. After all, it is considered the fetish of the intelligentsia.
