UK - Honey, I'm tied up right now! A new survey finds that almost two thirds have used handcuffs, blindfolds and whips to spice up their sex lives
MOST couples have unleashed their kinky side in the bedroom and tried bondage, according to a new survey.
S&M is no longer a weird fetish pursuit as 66 per cent of people have worn a blindfold during sex and an even higher 69 per cent of us have tied up a partner during bedroom fun.
More than half those surveyed (52 per cent) have also used handcuffs and one in five have gagged a partner while making love.
The results are from a survey of 2,500 people by online sex shop Lovehoney which found the majority of us (61 per cent) now view bondage "as something naughty to spice things up".
Another 21 per cent of respondents said they would love to try it but had yet to find a partner who felt the same.
For 16 per cent of people, bondage is now an every day part of their sexual routine. The most popular bondage items are ties and restraints, used by two-thirds (66 per cent) of those surveyed.
Other popular items include specialist equipment such as handcuffs (used by 61 per cent), blindfolds (65 per cent), bondage rope (26 per cent) and tape (23 per cent). Meanwhile an adventurous three per cent have tried a sex swing.
Even without a trip to a sex shop, many couples improvise with everyday household items such as men's ties, scarfs, shower heads and even electric toothbrushes as sex aids.
Almost four out of ten of couples (39 per cent) admitted using household objects as sex accessories.
The poll shows that just two years on from the release of Fifty Shades of Grey, soft bondage has entered the mainstream and become a regular part of couples' sexual routines.
Just two per cent of people said they had tried bondage but were ashamed of it. And only three per cent of those polled said they would like to try it but they didn't think their partner would like it.
The research was released to celebrate the launch of the Bettie Page Official Pleasure Collection, a range of soft-bondage items and sex toys inspired by 1950s pin-up Bettie Page.
Lovehoney co-founder Neal Slateford said: "The results show that we are all growing a bit about sex. Couples aren't afraid to try new things and what was seen as a bit extreme a few years ago now feels completely normal and healthy.
"A lot of couples are experimenting with bondage using household items, realising they enjoy it and coming to Lovehoney to buy products designed by our experts."
Soft bondage items in the collection include a collar and lead, wrist cuffs, blindfold, satin restraints and bondage rope.
There are four items made for spanking including a leather bullwhip, riding crop, spanking paddle and spanking bat.
Known for her jet black hair and piercing blue eyes, Page's trademark fringe was copied by Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction while singer Katy Perry, Scarlett Johansson and Dita Von Teese have also modelled the style.
Slateford added: Bettie Page was the first Queen of Bondage and the idea behind the collection is to provide a stylish range of products for beginners and more experienced fans of bondage.
Fifty Shades of Grey has changed the sexual landscape and introduced millions of couples to the pleasures of bondage. With the movie out next year, millions more will be tempted to give it a try.
"The collection is beautifully packaged and will appeal to couples who love vintage and retro styles and enjoy sex with a bit of style."
Bettie Page died in 2008 and the collection is officially licensed through her estate.
