US schools celebrate 'National Kink Month'.
Source: Allvoices.com. - Allvoices.com - USA
USA - The US has a "National Kink Month." If you missed last years events, and you live in New England, dont worry. Your schoolchildren can tell you all about it, and help you prepare for the next one. You paid for their training, so you might as well celebrate. Right?Last year, Planned Parenthood of Northern New England taught public school children all about bondage, dominance, sadism, and masochism, or BDSM.
Getting Kinky, (BDSM 101) is featured on PPNNEs website for teens, called A Naked Notion. PPNNE describes it as:
a brand new project dedicated to frank, open conversations about sexuality. It stars sex educator Laci Green and is brought to you by Planned Parenthood of Northern New England
Laci Green [is a] 22-year-old San-Franciscan, sex educator, video blogger, blog blogger, crisis counselor, social scientist, asparagus lover & artichoke dipper.
In the BDSM video, Green introduces National Kink Month:
October and kink--they are kind of a fitting pair. Halloween and kink are both about adventure and fun and exploring roles and dynamics that are maybe a little bit different from everyday life. So many of the common kinks out there fall under the umbrella of BDSM. Today, I want to talk about what BDSM is, what it isnt, and some of the rules that come with it
People across the spectrum with various backgrounds participate in BDSM. The pain-is-exhilaration concept is not only old as dirt, its pretty common outside the bedroom.
Green insists that BDSM is not abuse. She compares the thrill of BDSM to a runners high:
The idea of using power and control and pain in a sex scene understandably sets off alarms in some peoples heads
They hear that BDSM involves spanking and pain and torture. Oh, my God, its scary stuff! With no further knowledge, its easy to conflate BDSM with abuse. But BDSM and abuse are actually very different. BDSM is about a consensual power exchange. Abuse is not. BDSM is negotiated and agreed upon before anything happens. Abuse is not. BDSM has rules, limits and boundaries that are respected by all parties. Abuse does not. BDSM relies upon and creates trust
Of course, Green instructs teens in BDSM to protect themselves from contact from their partners body fluids, like semen, vaginal fluids, breast milk or blood. She suggests using Yes/No/Maybe Charts or symbols like red lights, pineapples, and bananas. She also recommends a period of aftercare that includes cuddling. The aftercare is important for building trust.
For teens who prefer other sexual activities, Green offers a library of how-to videos. These include
anal sex,
oral sex,
amazing sex,
transgender,
bisexuality,
multiple orgasms,
squirters, and
penis problems. Green stresses safe sex.
Green tells teens she enjoys oral sex. For those who dont want to swallow semen, she demonstrates creating a
dental dam, from a condom. Sexually active teens with sexually transmitted infections neednt worry. Planned Parenthood will provide treatment and medications. I heard no mention of parents or family physicians.
Green seemed engaging, and her body language was provocative. She also promoted becoming
sexologists. In videos I reviewed, I found nothing to suggest pornography. I did notice that YouTube links in the final frames offered links unsuitable for minors. For example, the end of Greens BDSM video took me to bondage instructions for adults and a home bondage party. Readers who are curious about bondage knots and dildos may search for themselves.
Teens may explore all PPNNE adult resources and links, such as a guided tour of an
antique vibrator museum, with sexologist Curator, Dr. Carol Queen. Those magic fingers were impressive. I also found "
5 Must-Try Fantasies For Couples," with costume ideas for Halloween, which falls in 2014s National Kink Month.
A Naked Notion provides materials for every gender, identification, orientation, and sexual pleasure, plus links to adult communities. PPNNE also treats the diseases those activities promote. Please note, none of the resources I viewed lists the recommended ages for viewers. Click discretely.
For readers more curious about National Kink Month, I looked that up too.
The Manchester Public Library, in Michigan included it with commemorative months for October. The library claimed
Wikipedia.org, as its source. Wikipedia disagreed apparently, and
wrote this:
The page "national kink month" does not exist. You can ask for it to be created, but consider checking the search results below to see whether the topic is already covered. Listed below, I read:
BDSM, or kink sexual identity also constitutes a form of sexual orientation. ... [See] National Coalition for Sexual Freedom (NCSF )...
Who footed the bill for Greens videos?
Reporter Barbara Hollingsworth, investigated PPNNE for CNS. Hollingsworth asked, "Why is it appropriate for a federally funded organization to produce a video that promotes bondage, sadism and masochism to teens?"
A spokesperson replied, We are currently not commenting or talking to you. At this point, I am going to disconnect.
The reporter posed similar questions to 11 members of Congress from northern New England. Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) sent this reply, Senator Ayotte thinks this video, which is clearly targeted at a younger audience, is inappropriate and troubling. She believes taxpayers shouldnt be directly or indirectly funding activity like this." The others refused to comment.
This report raises many questions. Allvoices readers should form their own conclusions. For concerned parents and guardians, its time to open dialogues with children and educators. Funding for sexuality education is provided through the current health care act. In my opinion, those struggling to pay for it deserve a voice, also.
Authors Note: This is an original report with excerpts hyperlinked above. Last month, I wrote about
sexuality, education and the new
abstinence. Those reports reached Ohios legislature. One representative called them shocking. He said no one at the state level was aware of this trend until now. My objective has been to alert our readers about what has been slipping through the back doors of our schools. It appears that Ive been successful. Thank you, Allvoices staff and contributors, for providing the opportunity to do so.
