USA - Belgian-born Aline Queen draws upon her experience in classical music, the world of domination and fetishism, and fashion to crank out some of the most kinetic, pulsating music in recent years.

Equally proficient in piano and opera as she is in electro-pop, Aline’s approach to music is unique, to say the least. Tackling themes of sexual expression and identity, fashion and personal achievement, her music is a must for electronic fans. Her newest music video, “Princess Boy,” is sure to draw praise for its impassioned, unique vision of androgyny.

Aline gives San Diego Gay & Lesbian News an overview about what drives her to make music, her appreciation for museums abroad, and the experimentation in identity that fuels “Princess Boy.”

Aline, what motivates you to make the music you make?

I just have all these ideas and emotions that need to come out of me. I love creating things. No matter what that is: music, fashion, painting, stage ideas, or movement. Then, when I see that it evokes in other people, I'm complete. Going on stage and hearing people singing your song is the best feeling ever. I want to inspire people to be themselves.

From what sources do you draw artistic inspiration?

I go to museums a lot. Museum is about modern and ancient arts, history, science, and nature. I've recently been to Prague and Athens, where I was totally mesmerized by all the culture, the architecture and arts. I love opera and sing opera myself. That's a big source of inspiration for me. I love French poetry like Baudelaire and futuristic movies. I love contemporary dance as a spectator and as a dancer. I listen to new music all day. I'm constantly learning.

Dive a little deeper into "Princess Boy." What drove this song and what put the passion in the piece?

I’ve always had an appreciation for androgynous men and women. I’m a bit of a tomboy myself and then I have this other side of me as I have worked as a professional dominatrix, and that side of me explores feminization. The passion comes from my fascination with people who do not easily fit into gender norms and I’m just fascinated by how people express their gender identity. I know that for most transgender people it isn’t about sensationalizing their appearance or how they identify outwardly, but rather just being comfortable about who they are in everyday life. So what I am passionate about is letting people know it’s okay to explore this if area whether you are exploring it from a place of questioning your gender or whether you are a young boy or girl who is just experimenting with being androgynous.

What are your most important personal satisfactions and dissatisfactions connected with being a musician?

Satisfaction is when I write a song that resonates very deep within me, and then I see that it makes sense with other people too, that they really dig it and sing it too, and even make it their own. That's the best satisfaction ever. Dissatisfaction: I don't really have any. I try to focus on the positive and on what I'm doing. So everything is about hard work and pursuing what I want and making things happen.

What’s a little piece of trivia we don’t know about you Aline?

I love rock climbing.

What would you like to see change in the LGBT community?

Nothing inside the community. But of course, I'd like that some people stop discriminating against the LGTB community. People are people. Period. And no one should be judged because of who they love, and the LGBT community should have the same rights as others. Sex love and marriage of any kind shouldn't be regulated or limited by laws.

What do you like most about the LGBT community?

People who feel like they belong to LGTB community are more liberal and open minded and inclusive. It is something that I’m attracted to as I’m this way too.

What sorts of things do you do to enrich your social life outside of music?

I do a lot of music and work a lot, and a lot of my social life gravitates around people I work with: dancers, choreographers, musicians, writers, producers, photographers, film directors. All enrich me a lot. Most of my friends are artists too.

If you could host a dinner party and invite three people (dead or alive), who would they be and why?

Bach: I want to learn everything about him and know how he wrote his masterpieces and learn how to write like him. I'm fascinated with Counterpoint and older music, and Bach pushed the Counterpoint to a level never equaled. Einstein: he revolutionized physics, made big steps in the quest of a Unified Theory, and was also very knowledgeable in other fields like music. It would have been pretty amazing to talk to him and see how he envisioned the world. Warren Buffet: I think successful self-made people who earn a lot of money are also very interesting people because of their brilliant ideas and their drive. They want something and go get it. They never give up. And it's very inspiring. I would definitely want to meet with him sometimes. Warren if you read this, let's get a tea/coffee together sometimes! And if you don't mind, I'd like to add a fourth person. Cleopatra: I want to learn about her Art of Seduction and how she got the things she wanted. She must have been a very captivating and intense person.
