Bondage torturer Sven Huebner to challenge parole board rejection

AUSTRALIA - A MAN who killed a woman and tortured another during a bondage sex session - and who has been called a “sexual sadist” by a psychiatrist - is launching a fresh bid for release.
Sven Huebner, 45, will today seek a judicial review in the Supreme Court of a parole rejection late last year. He was jailed for 16 years in 2006 for the manslaughter of friend Linda Roberts and the torture of university student Melissa Gazsik.
Huebner had claimed he was a caring friend who let his love of bondage get out of hand, but the suggestion was dismissed as absurd by a jury, and later Court of Appeal.
Brisbane secretary Ms Roberts, 27, was killed on August 18, 2001. Her naked body, along with plastic and rope, was dumped in bushland in Brisbane’s south.
She had driven to a house to watch movies with Huebner and his girlfriend Amy Maher, but died after Huebner tied a rope around her neck.
After she’d been killed, Huebner placed her body in a suitcase and dumped it. It was found three months later.
He later joined the search for her and attended a memorial service.
Both Huebner and Maher were arrested after another friend, Melissa Gazsik, told police the couple had lured her to bush a year before and choked, bound and tortured her.
Huebner was sentenced to 12 years’ jail for the manslaughter of Ms Roberts and an additional four years for the torture of Ms Gazsik.
Maher, 24, was sentenced to 18 months’ jail for being an accessory after the fact to Roberts’ manslaughter. She also got three years and six months’ jail for the attack on Gazsik.
During the parole process last year, a psychiatrist warned Huebner was a sexual sadist that should not be paroled.
Under Queensland law, violent offenders must serve at least 80 per cent of their sentence.
Dr Josephine Sundin described him as a “chameleon cloaked in a cape of remorse”.
She believed he was still driven by the dysfunctional traits that triggered his offending.
“The combination of elevated psychopathy scores and a sexual paraphilia heightens the risk of future recidivism in this man,’ she said.
